During the year, the students will be working on many higher-level problem-solving activities. In all three grade levels, my job is to both support and push students beyond the curriculum and standards being covered in the regular classroom. Each week, I will visit each classroom, and my hope is to inspire and engage every student in a variety of challenges and activities that will help to exercise their brains.
In addition, I will be working outside the classroom with small groups of students in the subjects of Math and reading/ELA. These groups of students will be selected through a multi-step process, and my task will be to provide an environment where those students with some common academic strengths can be pushed to apply their skills in new and exciting ways.
During the first several weeks of school, our GT/Enrichment classes have been focused on learning how we work well together. We watched some fascinating video clips about how humans, insects, and animals all work together in a variey of ways. We then completed various brainstorming activities to assess the students' understanding of how to work well with others. We also did a few challenge activities to test their skills in the area of working well with their peers. As we move towards the final week of September, we will begin doing some work around both Language Arts and Math. Each grade level will be involved with some actvities that are related to both the curriculum and the standards that are being delivered in their classrooms. It has been a great first month! Look for some photos to be added to the montly blog beginning in October!
